HONEY THASOS
About us
Before 1973 all the villages of Thassos had a Cooperative. Forty-four (44) beekeepers decided to organize a joint Beekeeping Cooperative for the whole island.
In 1976 the building facilities of the Cooperative in an area of 4 acres were completed. In the following years, a total of 400 members were registered and the production they gathered at that time was approximately 900 to 1000 tons, which was available in the Greek market.
Until 2000, the Cooperative went through great difficulties such as natural disasters, fires that resulted in the burning and destruction of thousands of beehives, bringing the beekeepers to despair and the Cooperative to the brink of disintegration, after being over-indebted to banks and suppliers. At that time, out of 400 members, only 40 remained.
Nevertheless, the Cooperative from 2000 until today with the love of the beekeepers of the island managed again to stand firmly on its feet and so today remains a large and strong beekeeping center in our area and throughout Greece.
Our Cooperative operates and is managed autonomously by ourselves, the simple beekeepers and all the difficult years that have passed and we are going through this pandemic, the Cooperative has a small but steady upward course. This is due to the prestige and trust that the Cooperative has gained from our customers and our concierc
Our island is known as a tourist destination throuahout Greece but also produces qualitv agricultural products. Our island produces three thousand tons of honey a year from all the bees that visit us from all over Greece. To make this excellent pine honey that does not exist in any other region of Greece or in the whole world.
The honey of the Cooperative produced in Thassos is special, with many healing properties and this is due to the fact that the pines are in a mountainous area and are not affected by radioactivity and other pesticides, because there are no other crops.
From repeated inspections, Thassos honey has been awarded many times and most recently in 2020 in a competition held in England it took first place. Also, from a research done by Professor Mr. Mosialos Dimitris, he assured us that the best honey is pine and especially the pine of Thassos. It is similar and better than manuka honey.
So today there is a need more than ever to stimulate the loyalty of customers and consumers to the honey of the Thassos Cooperative.
